Today, we lack metrics to know if we are winning or losing the global war on terror. Are we capturing, killing or deterring and dissuading more terrorists every day than the madrassas and the radical clerics are recruiting, training and deploying against us?

HelmandAfghan Army soldiers, backed by advisors, killed 104 Taliban during a battle near Musa Qala Wadi in Helmand province, and NATO forces killed another 65 in a battle in Uruzgan.

HelmandTaliban spokesman Yousuf Ahmadi and his brother were captured in Helmand province.

GhazniPolice arrested six Taliban fighters in Ghazni province.
Monday, October 1, 2007: Captured: 2; Killed: 22
Helmand; Nangarhar; ZabulTwo Taliban were killed, one wounded, and six captured in Zabul province. NATO and Afghan forces killed 20 Taliban in Helmand province. Police captured an IED maker in Nangarhar.

Task Force 88 captured a member of the Special Groups in Baghdad. Five al Qaeda operatives were killed and 34 suspects detained.
Thursday, September 27, 2007: Captured: 35; Killed: 1
Special operations forces killed one Special Groups operative and captured two. Twenty-one al Qaeda operatives were captured in raids throughout the country. US forces captured 12 insurgents in raids near Busayefi and Hawr Rajab.

Special Operations Forces killed Abu Usama al Tunis, a Tunisian al Qaeda in Iraq leader, during a raid in in Musayyib. Al Tunis was the emir of all of al Qaeda in Iraq foreign fighters and was a likely successor to Abu Ayyub al Masri. "Al Tunisi facilitated foreign terrorists and helped equip them for improvised explosive device attacks, car-bombing campaigns and suicide attacks throughout Baghdad," Multinational Forces Iraq stated. Iraqi and US Special Forces captured a Shia extremist brigade leader in New Baghdad. Operations against al Qaeda's network resulted in six killed and 27 wounded. Iraqi Special Operations Forces captured the al Qaeda in Iraq cell leader in Baghdad's Ghazaliyah neighborhood.
Sunday, September 30, 2007: Captured: 35; Killed: 9; High value: 1
Abdel Rahman al Anbari, a senior al Qaeda leader, was captured near Samarra. Iraqi Special Operations Forces captured 16 al Qaeda leaders and fighters in raids nationwide. The Iraqi Army killed seven IED emplacers near Tal Afar. US forces captured 14 al Qaeda operatives in the Rashid District of southern Baghdad. Two al Qaeda operatives were killed and 21 captured during raids in the Tigris River Valley.

Al Qaeda in Iraq confirmed the US killed Abu Usama al Tunisi last week. Iraqi Special Operations Forces captured 23 suspected al Qaeda in Iraq operatives. Coalition special forces killed seven al Qaeda operatives and captured 11 during raids in central and northern Iraq.
Tuesday, October 2, 2007: Captured: 10; Killed: 1
Special operations forces raids against al Qaeda in Iraq associates in central and northern Iraq resulted in one operative killed and 10 captured. US soldiers captured five insurgents and destroyed a car bomb during a raid near Salman Pak.
